How the total is calculated
This follows the calculation used by Hellebucks ↗, using Larkin’s salary.
SEASON BASE SALARY$8,000,000
÷
REGULAR-SEASON DAYS194
=
ESTIMATED DAILY LOSS$41,237.11
I divide Larkin’s base salary by the number of days in the regular season to get a daily rate, then multiply by the time he spends suspended without pay. Days without a game count too.
Larkin’s reported base salary for 2026–27 is $8 million. Spread over the 194 days from September 29 through April 10, that works out to about $41,237 per day. His $8.7 million cap hit is the average across his contract; the calculation here uses this season’s base pay and excludes bonuses.
The fine print +
This is an estimate based on public salary figures. Taxes, escrow, grievances and any agreement between Larkin and the team could affect the final amount. The counter spreads the daily rate over 86,400 seconds so you can watch it accumulate; actual payroll deductions may be handled differently.
The Red Wings announced the unpaid suspension on October 29. The clock uses the publication time of the team’s statement as an approximate start because no separate effective time was given. Counting stops when the unpaid suspension ends or the regular season finishes. A trade alone does not establish when the suspension ends. I update those dates by hand using the reports linked on this page.
I made this after seeing Hellebucks track Connor Hellebuyck’s lost pay in Winnipeg. When Larkin decided he wouldn’t play, I figured Detroit could use one too.
The Red Wings have now suspended Larkin without pay. This counter estimates how much salary he has forfeited since the team announced that suspension.
